Targeted at the poor, needy and destitutes living in Ang Mo Kio GRC, this Community Help Fund will provide assistance, financial aid, bursaries, allowance supplements, second-hand furnitures, interest-free loan schemes and free meals. Funding will be raised from various community centre events by the Ang Mo Kio Town Council.

 

Role of Ang Mo Kio Town Council

Under the direct supervision of the Ang Mo Kio Town Council, a 24 hour service centre will be set up to provide round-the-clock assistance to Ang Mo Kio residents. In support of active-ageing, we will give employment priority to elderly Singaporeans to manage this initiative.

The Town Council will work closely with the elected MP of the particular sub-constituency (e.g. Kebun Bahru, Teck Ghee, Seletar etc.) to handle residential complaints, estates management and upgradings and maintenance work.

We promise not to increase Service & Conservancy Charges for the next 5 years and will invest the Town Council funds in more effective ways and more prudently in accordance with the Town Councils Act (these rules were enacted by the Ministry of National Development).

We will abolish Cleaning Contractors and hire cleaners directly under the supervision of the Town Council.

Proposals to Government Ministries

  1. Setting up of more Senior Activity Centres (SACs) with Voluntary Welfare Organization like AWWA and Thye Hua Kuan Moral Society. A good existing example would be AWWA’s Senior Activity Centre at Ang Mo Kio Blk 123.
  2. Setting up of more multi-story carparks in Ang Mo Kio Central to ease congestion within the township

    With reference to Land Transport Authority, we will propose construction of new roads to improve accessibility in Seletar Hills estates and Jalan Kayu. For example, a road could be constructed to link Mimosa Walk to Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

  4. With reference to the Ministry of National Development and Singapore Land Authority, we will propose development of a food centre and wet market in Seletar Hills to provide amenities to the residents.

    We will conduct Meet-the-People sessions 3 times a week and open up several feedback channels from drop-in mailbox to online email.
Ward Tasks Ahead
Kebun Bahru Heritage Development 

  1. We will construct a few pillars in the central resting area beside blk 226B depicting history of Kebun Bahru (interesting facts, how it got its name and etc.)

Amenities

  1. We will build more wheelchair-friendly structures e.g. ramps, wheelchair-friendly public toilets and appeal to Singapore Bus Service to introduce more Wheelchair-Accessible Buses
  2. Covered walkways will be built to link all markets and coffeeshops.

Cleanliness/Maintenance

  1. More rubbish bins to be set up around the central market area.
  2. Compulsory Food Market and Wet Market cleaning weekly.
  3. Repainting of HDB flats every 3 years.
Ang Mo Kio Central Heritage Development 

  1. We will do an aluminum-plated on the walls of Ang Mo Kio underpass walkway to depict history of Ang Mo Kio (interesting facts, how it got its name and etc.)

Amenities

  1. We will build more wheelchair-friendly structures e.g. ramps, wheelchair-friendly public toilets and appeal to Singapore Bus Service to introduce more Wheelchair-Accessible Buses
  2. Covered walkways will be built to link all markets and coffeeshops.
  3. Alert-Alarm System to be created for all Rental Flats like the one done for Ang Mo Kio Blk 123
  4. Propose more Rental Flats to house more elderly poor

Cleanliness/Maintenance

  1. Increase in the number of Rubbish Bins and increase in collection frequency
  2. Repainting of HDB flats every 3 years.

Traffic congestion

  1. Building ERPs does not solve traffic congestion, we will propose to build more multi-story carparks next to the old Ang Mo Kio bus interchange.
Teck Ghee Heritage Development 

  1. We will do an aluminum-plated on the walls of Ang Mo Kio underpass walkway to depict history of Ang Mo Kio (interesting facts, how it got its name and etc.)

  1. We will build more wheelchair-friendly structures e.g. ramps, wheelchair-friendly public toilets and appeal to Singapore Bus Service to introduce more Wheelchair-Accessible Buses
  2. Covered walkways will be built to link all markets and coffeeshops.

  1. Increase in the number of Rubbish Bins and increase in collection frequency
  2. Repainting of HDB flats every 3 years, especially Flats along Ang Mo Kio Street 31.

 
Private estates along Jalan Kayu, Seletar Hills Estates and Lentor Ave (Yio Chu Kang) Heritage Development 

  1. We will do an aluminum-plated signage on the walls of Ang Mo Kio underpass walkway to depict history of Ang Mo Kio (interesting facts, how it got its name and etc.)

Amenities

  1. We will propose to build more food centres and wholesale shops (like NTUC and Cold Storage) especially in Seletar Hills
  2. Covered walkways will be built to link all markets and coffeeshops.
  3. Upgrading of tattered road pavements along Jalan Kayu.
  4. Installation of covered walkways from shops to bus stops at Jalan Kayu.
  5. Improve accessibility of Seletar Hills. We are proposing a road to link Seletar Road to Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5
