It is compulsory to vote in Singapore. Yet for many Singaporeans voting is a meaningless exercise because you are effectively disenfranchised. This is due to the fact that the Opposition has been unable to find sufficient candidates and financial resources to contest more than half of the constituencies. In 2006 the PAP were able to gain 37 seats on Nomination Day without having to contest them, because candidates could not be found to stand in these constituencies. This is a travesty of how the democratic process is supposed to work and for those of you living in those constituencies you might as well be living in North Korea or China, for all the ability you have to choose your representative.
So, if you support the Reform Party’s belief that Singaporeans can have both freedom AND prosperity, we need you to come forward and join the Party or become a volunteer and make a difference. As our Secretary-General said at his dinner speech, YOU are the ones we are waiting for. There is hope for a better future if we‘re brave enough to stand up and make things happen.
You can get involved as little or as much as you want.
Join Us
Reform Party members are ordinary people who want to bring about real change in Singapore. If you agree with what we stand for, you can play a part by joining the Reform Party.
However not everyone has the time or the inclination to be actively involved. In that case we welcome you as members with the assurance that you will not be asked to do more than you are comfortable with.
Stay Connected With Us You could just sign up for news by email, so that you are up-to-date with what the Reform Party is saying. You could follow the Reform Party and its Parliamentary Candidates on Facebook or Twitter. Help us spread our message to more Singaporeans. You can also subscribe to New Dawn, the Reform Party newsletter.
Come and join us in our weekly open house discussion at the Party office at 18A Smith Street to discuss issues without constraints on matters affecting our country and community.
Regular Open House: Every Thursday between 7and 9pm Young Reformer Open House: Every Tuesday between 7 and 9pm
The Young Reformers
This is the Youth Wing of the Party which is aimed at those below 35. The Young Reformers meet every Tuesday between 7 and 9 at the Party’s office to discuss matters that affect our country and community. They also organize activities that are aimed at increasing young people’s political awareness and knowledge of what the Reform Party stands for as well as fun events.
Become A Volunteer
If you want to do a bit more, you could volunteer in our community outreach programme. We conduct weekly walkouts to engage the communities in various electoral constituencies in Singapore. You could help with delivering some leaflets or help to sell the Party publications for an hour or two every month. In addition we always need volunteers to help with specific events.
You could also sign up as volunteers in our Election Campaign - be a polling agent for our Parliamentary candidates or help our candidates in the election campaigns. At election time we would need a lot of volunteers to put up posters, spread our campaign messages, reach out to the voters, organize rallies, and many other exhilarating but exhausting tasks.
Join a Sub–Committee
Sub-committees are responsible for producing reports and analysis and work closely with the CEC member assigned to that area.
Donate to The Reform Party
The Reform Party cannot rely on donations from big businesses or Trade Unions. We rely on donations from ordinary supporters who want us to succeed. A donation of $10, or whatever you want to give, would help. Under the law you must be a permissible donor which means that:
1. You must be over 21; and 2. You must be a Singapore citizen
You also need to provide your name and NRIC number because we are not allowed to accept anonymous donations in total in excess of $5,000 in any year.
You can also support the Party by buying its publications, memorabilia and T-shirts.
Be A Parliamentary Candidate
If you want to help shape the Reform Party’s campaigns and policies for the future you could even be one of our candidates for Singapore Parliamentary Elections. How much you want to get involved is up to you. But you can make a difference. Help the Reform Party bring about real change that benefits you.
